Beetle Bits Cutting System – Glass Cutting Made Easy
The Ultra Beetle Bits Cutting System is a luxury and not a “must-have” item in your stained glass toolbox, but it does make it much easier and quicker if you have to do a lot of cuts. And those cuts are super-clean with this tool.
The kit comes with everything you need to create accurate cuts in your glass sheets. It has guides, rulers, and locks to keep the sheets in exactly the position you need them in, which means you can make cut after cut and know that they are all in the same place. Priceless for our Altered Scopes!
One of the biggest reasons for this investment was to have the ability to mass-produce our scopes. Well, when we say “mass,” we mean at least multiple numbers of the same design. Hey, we are after all a small studio, lol.
With the glass kit, you can also cut much smaller pieces thanks to the locks that you can push into the honeycomb mat to keep them from moving around. And there is no shame in using the pliers after making the initial cut with the kit. Whatever works best for you and your project.
With a price tag of around $200, it is an investment to think about. But depending on how much glass work you do, it should pay you back in no time at all.

Update: 7/7/23
Just a quick update after a few months of using the kit. We are still using our Beetle Bits Cutting System nonstop on 95% of our stained glass projects and it is working great. Currently in the middle of multiple kaleidoscope designs we are able to keep a perfect template by using the attached stoppers and clamps to keep each piece of glass or mirror perfectly in-place. I was hesitant with the higher cost at first but we have much less breakages and mistakes with this kit that it’s actually saving us money. 10/10.
