Our Haul from the Brimfield Flea Market

Check out our haul from our day trip to the Brimfield Flea Market in Massachusetts.
The first thing to know about the BFM is that it’s huge! And we mean MASSIVE! You can literally spend an entire day just walking around it and still not see everything it has to offer. The flea market sets up three times a year, with the first visit coming in May, followed by more opportunities to see it in July and September. The fields open at 6 am on a Tuesday, and it all gets packed down on Sunday, which gives you a few days to take it all in.
Vendors come from all over the US and as far as Africa, bringing some truly unique items for your browsing or buying pleasure. Because it’s so vast, it helps to have at least an idea of what you’re looking for. But in our case, we just walk around looking for unique ideas to turn into creative products. Some of the best tents to look in for those items are the ones that look like they just tossed everything they’re selling into trays and drawers. It’s here where you can find amazing things at the lowest prices.
Our Flea Market Collection
We did have one creative idea that we’ve been thinking about for a while, and that was an epoxy-poured pyramid filled with unique items. And as soon as we set our eyes on a couple of ceramic mushrooms, we knew we had our theme. The larger mushroom was only $10, so we grabbed the smaller version for an extra $5, why not at that price. As our pyramid will be 6 inches, we’ll use the smaller mushroom to start our epoxy project. The larger shroom will be held on the shelf until we think of a different project that justifies using the cool-looking fungi.
Brimfield Flea Market Purchases
Guess how much the metal plane was… $18! I walked past it at first but decided against buying it. However, after about ten minutes, I decided to rush back and buy it before anyone else did, and luckily it was still there. I’m a HUGE aviation geek, so a plane was right up my alley, especially one themed around WWII.
The Rusty Plane Project
My idea for the plane is to rig up something that will make the propeller spin at the front. I also feel like it should be hanging from the ceiling, which means that I will build in a couple of light bulbs to make it a feature of the room. What I might do is hang two bulbs from the bottom of the aircraft to make them look like it is dropping bombs. And then 3D print the front and back of a bomb to attach at either end of the bulbs to give them a really accurate look. At least that’s what I’m thinking right now.
However, the epoxy pyramid will be the first project we take on before anything else. The grass you see under the mushroom was ordered from Amazon, as well as the epoxy and other material we will need to complete the project. But do not worry, we will write everything up and film it as we go along in case you want to follow along.
